Tierras prometidas: Inmigración y etnicidad desde una mirada teológica y de género
GEMRIP/UCEL
This course aims to explore the intersection of migration and ethnic phenomena from the theological and gender perspectives. Because these intersections refer to human populations, the question of identity and its multiple negotiations is a very important aspect. Both the vast expanse of issues around that intersection as well as the brevity of this course lead us to limit our study to migration and ethnicity in the context of Argentina. The challenge of course is to ensure that students by using tools of the social sciences can undertake a theological and gender analysis in order to help them understand the basics of those issues in the concrete reality of immigrant communities.
Offered: Fall 2011, Spring 2013, Fall 2014.

Teologías Queer
GEMRIP/UCEL
Queer theologies analyze not only the dogmas accepted by institutionalized religions but also investigate the background of these dogmas in order to demonstrate their presuppositions on gender and sexuality. On the other hand, queer theologies seek to examine and promote the many ways in which these dogmas assume unconventional forms and practices in the daily life of individuals discriminated because of their sexual orientation both within religious institutions and society. While this is especially evident in the lives of gays and lesbians, it is strongest in the lives of bisexual, transgender and intersex individuals and communities. Drawing from an interdisciplinary approach, this course seeks to examine those issues in different contexts (Latin America, Asia, and Asian-America) to give the students a global and diverse perspective on the queer theological currents in the 21st century.
Offered: Spring 2012, Fall 2013, Summer 2014.

Trata y tráfico de personas: El rol de las organizaciones religiosas
GEMRIP/UCEL
The issue of human trafficking and smuggling, although not new, is increasingly considered by both government organizations and by social organizations as well as mass media. Joint efforts have made significant progress in this area but the road ahead is still extensive. However, little is known about how religious organizations address this situation. Therefore, the purpose of this course is to investigate that area, drawing from the sacred writings (Bible) and the history of Christianity in order to contribute to a theology of accompaniment to people affected by this situation.

Ecumenismo, diálogo interreligioso y pluralismo religioso
GEMRIP/UCEL
In a constantly changing world where secularism as well as religious, cultural, and linguistic pluralism have become features of globalization, addressing the study of religious diversity is a necessity. On one hand, the Christian Churches have visibly expressed their differences to be separated from each other, the fact that only began to change with the emergence of so-called "ecumenical movement." On the other hand, the human experience in terms of the phenomenon of faith expressed in different religions confronts us with the question of how to coexist at local, regional and/or global levels.

Sociología de la religión
GEMRIP/UCEL
Sociology of religion is the study of the ways that behaviors, social structures, evolution, and the roles that different religions take amidst human societies. This branch of sociology is analyzes the influence that religion has on the collective behavior of human beings, especially in the reciprocal interactions between religion and society. Emerged in the late 19th century and early 20th century, sociology of religion has survived the assumptions of some intellectuals who predicted the "death of God" as the end of the interest in religions. Quite the contrary, the 21st century displays various movements and religious performances which — beyond the hypothesis on the end of religion — inspire, condition, and give meaning to the lives of millions of human beings in our contemporary world. Because of this, this course aims to briefly trace the development of the sociology of religion through the classic authors and relevant issues inherent to this discipline.
